The 10 Minute Routine To Save You An Hour Tomorrow

How nights are key to better mornings

Often, we focus on morning routines to get tasks done, but normally, the night before can be just as important—if not more. A simple 10-minute routine the night before can set you up for a successful tomorrow. Instead of scrambling in the morning, you’ll wake up ready to go, with more time for the things you actually enjoy doing. How can you use those 10 minutes wisely the night before?

1. Creating A Stress-Distraction-Free Environment.

Before you dive into preparing tasks, take a minute or two to set the mood. This will allow you to be relaxed while doing this. Try turning on softer lighting and even background music. This signals your brain it's time to wind down.

2. Remove Big Distractions.

Most likely, your phone is already in your hand; either put it on do not disturb or put it in another room. This will cause you to lose focus

3. Quick Tidy Up

Start by doing a quick sweep of your main areas. This doesn’t mean deep clean, it’s just putting things back in their place so you can wake up to a calm space.

Here are some things you can start by doing:

  • Put away that cluster of dishes you've been putting off.

  • Fold your throw blankets on the couch.

  • Clean that mountain of clothes by your bed.

It feels amazing how much lighter your mornings can feel when you’re not disturbed by last night’s mess.

4. Prepare Outfits And Essentials

Picking out that perfect outfit in the morning can create stress that takes mental energy from the rest of your day. By choosing it the night before, you save time and avoid bad decision-making.

Here's how you can do this:

  • Lay everything out the night before: clothes, shoes, and accessories.
  • If you work out in the mornings, set aside gym gear as well.
  • Gather in one spot your essentials like keys, wallet, and work gear.

This way, you save time out the door and can grab that morning coffee without the rush.

5. Review Your Calendar

Open your phone calendar or planner and take a glance at tomorrow's tasks. This helps reduce surprises, causing stress.

  • Highlight your bigger tasks so you can get those done first
  • Note any appointments you may have
  • If something requires prepping time, like food, do it now.

6. Set Up Breakfast

Mornings go smoother when your food is ready for you.

Here are some things you can prepare:

  • overnight oats
  • smoothing ingredients
  • or a ready-to-eat breakfast sandwich
Even if breakfast doesn't take long, having it ready removes one less hurdle for the day

7. 2 Minutes To Yourself

Before you go to sleep, do something that signals your brain it's time to wind down and relax.

  • Try writing down how your day went
  • Practicing meditation techniques and stretching.
  • Reading a chapter of your favorite book or listening to your favorite podcast

This will ensure your day ends on a calm, relaxing note.

These routines don't have to take you more than 10 minutes a night, but they can save you an hour in the morning of scrambling.

Good mornings are built the night before; follow these, and you'll see the result of a stress-free morning.
